Download the Gmail/ Google Notifier To Manage Your Gmail Account Better
The Gmail/Google Notifier as the name suggests, notifies you whenever you get a new email in your Gmail account. It promptly alerts you about any unread messages in your inbox eliminating the need to open the browser and login to your account time and again to check for any new messages.
For PC Users:
Google has released the Gmail Notifier for PC users. This downloadable application appears within the system tray as soon as you download it. After downloading and installing the Notifier, you will be able to do the following:
- Check for new Gmail messages automatically in every two minutes.
- View a small piece of text from a maximum of 30 unread messages.
- Choose a preferred sound for indication of a new message.
- Set Gmail as your default email app.
Gmail Notifier is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 2000 and more recent Windows OS versions. It does not work with Windows ME right now, but Google is looking forward towards offering Gmail Notifier support to various other operating systems. At present, Google offers Gmail Notifier in English only.
You need to note that the Notifier will not work if you have enabled the setting “Always use https” in Gmail. To make it work even with this setting, you need to download and install a patch. Follow the below mentioned settings.
- Download the zipped patch file.
- Extract the folder and open it.
- Locate the file “notifier_https.reg” and double-click on it so as to install it on the system.
- You will be prompted for a confirmation for adding the data to the system registry. Click on “Yes”.
- Finally, restart the Gmail Notifier.
Anytime in future, if you disable the https setting, you will need to reset the Gmail Notifier by installing another file present in the downloaded patch. For doing so, you need to use the same procedure mentioned above but run the file named “’notifier_https_undo.reg” instead of “notifier_https.reg”.
For Mac Users:
Google Notifier, which is particularly designed for Mac alerts you about any upcoming events that are scheduled in your Google Calendar apart from keeping you well informed about new messages. Whenever you receive a Gmail message or when a scheduled event approaches closer, a translucent box appears on the screen to notify you about the email message/ event.
The moment you install Google Notifier, a couple of icons will appear on your menu bar on the right hand side. You simply need to click on Gmail icon to view the subject lines of recently received Gmail messages or click on Calendar icon to check out the upcoming appointments or events.
Google Notifier works with Mac OS X 10.3.8 and higher versions (including Tiger). Once you have downloaded and installed the Google Notifier, you will be able to do the following.
- View the list of all unread messages in your Gmail account.
- Set Gmail as your default email app.
- Have a quick look at the upcoming events scheduled in your Google Calendar.
- Add a new event to your Google Calendar.
