There are 3 ways in which you can find if your Windows XP Professional is Running on 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows:
Process 1
1. Choose “Start Search “or “Run” option from the Start Menu.
2. Type in”msinfo32.exe” and press Enter.
3. Within the “System Information” Window that appears, note “System Type” item value.
For 32-bit Windows editions, “System Type” value shows as “x86-based PC”
For 64-bit Windows editions, “System Type” value shows as “x64-based PC”
Process 2
1. From the Start Menu, go to “Run”. Then type in” sysdm.cpl” and click on “OK”
2. Select the “General” tab to view the operating system details as follows:
For 32-bit version of OS, “Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version ” is displayed under “System”
For 64-bit version of OS, “Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Version ” is displayed under “System”
Process3
1. Go to Start Menu and click on “Run” option. Type “winmsd.exe” and click on “OK”
2. Within the details pane, look for “Processor” item. Make a note of the value.
If the value corresponding to the item “Processor” has x86 in the start, the PC is running on 32-bit version of OS
If the value corresponding to the item “Processor” has AMD64 or ia64 in the start, the PC is running on 64-bit version of OS
