How to Import Music from iTunes into Windows Movie Maker
Many iTunes users who want to work with Windows Movie Maker face a lot of problems while importing music into the video. This is because Windows Movie Maker does not accept/recognize the format that iTunes work with (in the default setting) – which is the AAC format. There are, however, a couple of workarounds.
To start off, if you have purchased your songs from iTunes, then the only solution is to convert them using a software package called SoundTaxi. And, if you have simply ripped a CD you bought some while ago using iTunes then you can use the following methods to workaround this issue.
Method 1. Rip the CD again – this time in the MP3 format
To re-rip the CD in the MP3 format is an obvious solution – and for this simply carry out the following steps.
- Navigate to the Preferences dialog of iTunes (typically in Edit -> Preferences), and select the Advanced tab.
- There will be a drop-down menu called Import Using. Choose MP3 Encoder from this list and click on OK. [This is shown below.]
- Put the CD in the CD drive, and rip the CD tracks. This time around – they will be ripped as MP3 files and you can easily import them into Windows Movie Maker.
Method 2. Converting the songs from AAC into MP3 using iTunes
This is the other workaround – which is perhaps more preferable. iTunes gives you easy options for converting the AAC music files into MP3s.
- Open the Advanced tab in the Preferences dialog as you did in Steps 1 of the Method 1.
- Again, select the option of MP3 Encoder in the Import Using dropdown list.
- Right-click on the music file(s) in the iTunes library, and select the Convert Selection to MP3 option from the context menu. [Shown in figure below.]
- After the file(s) is(are) converted to MP3, locate them on the hard disk, and drag them into your Windows Movie Maker project.
