Have you lost the Serial Number or CD key of a software you had installed on your system and you have messed up something with the software and want the Serial Number or CD key ?
If you install registered or licensed software, then you mostly will have a Serial Number or Serial Key at the time of installation. This Serial Number or Serial Key will be used while re installing or repairing the software if it starts behaving in an unexpected way.
General practice is that the Serial Key / Number will be printed on the CD cover or will be in the readme.txt with in one of the folders in the CD. In case you don’t find it in either places and you’ve not noted the Serial Key / Number on a piece of paper, then in such situation you can use Win KeyFinder .
Win KeyFinder can be used to retrieve the Serial Number / Key of most of the software installed on your system, in case you’ve lost it. Win KeyFinder is a free utility which will scan the software installed on your system and find the Serial Number or CD key of that software. Then you’ll have an option to export those CD Keys or Serial numbers in Text or HTML format to be saved on your system.
Minimum requirement to run Win KeyFinder is that you need to have .NET framework 2.0 installed on your system. If you don’t have .Net Framework, then you can download it from here. Works good on Vista 32 bit, XP, MS Office 2007, Windows 2003.
Another alternative open source software – Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder is a good option.
Both the software are good and will assist you in retrieving your Serial Number or CD key.
