Have you forgotten our Outlook .pst file password ? If you have, you don’t need to worry as PstPassword v1.12 is a software that helps retrieve passwords of the Outlook .PST (Personal Folders) file.
The freeware is compatible with Outlook 97, Outlook 2000, Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2007 and can recover their passwords. Presence of MS outlook is not compulsory. The only requirement of proper working of PstPassword v1.12 is that original PST file that was locked with a password should be at hand. Version 1.12 has a brand new /pstfiles command-line option.
PstPassword v1.12 does not require installation procedure or additional dll files. Simply running the executable file PstPassword.exe is sufficient for opening it. PstPassword main window displays the list of PST files of the current logged on user. Since the encryption of passwords in the PST files is very weak, PstPassword software is able to provide three different passwords that can open the file.
One of them may be identical to the original password you typed or they may not be identical to the original password at all. If the PST file is not protected by a password, the 3 password columns of PstPassword will be empty and the CRC value column will display 0x00000000. To make the software retrieve the password of a PST file not displayed in the list you can press F7 and select the file or alternatively drag the PST file to the software window from the Explorer window.
PstPassword allows you to save the password to HTML file and four types of text files namely tabular, regular, tab-delimited and comma-delimited, through command line options.
You can translate PstPassword to another language. After translation the software can be run without translation by renaming the language file or moving it to another folder.
A minor limitation of the software is that at times it may fail to read the PST file and will display an error message in the error coloumn, with the item highlighted in pink color.
