Windirstat is a freeware that helps the user view statistics of hard disk usage to decide where space can be saved. It is also a cleanup tool for all current versions of MS Windows OS. The cleanup functions performed include Show Properties, Open and Delete (which helps you forget Recycle bin). User defined Command- line clean-ups and analysis of local devices are also possible.
WindirStat reads your directory tree and presents the information in three views. The first view is the directory list that presents information as seen in the tree view but with sorting criteria being file or sub-tree size. The second view, the treemap is a colorful view with files being presented as a shaded rectangle, the area of the file being proportionate to file size.
Directories are in the form of rectangles and contain files as well as sub-directories. The color of the file represents the file type which can be seen in the extension list. Directory structure is projected through cushion shading. The extension list is the third view and it acts as a legend depicting file statistics. Besides these views the statistics is also available in report format.
The software has useful attributes like zooming and coupling (selecting a treemap item highlights that item present in the directory list and vice versa)
The software can be used in computers with MS Windows operating systems such as Windows 95(IE5), Windows ME, Windows 98 SE, Windows NT4 (SP5), Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows 2000 and Windows Vista. The software is compatible with network drives as well as UNC paths. Online user help is available.
