Microsoft set its foot in the open source CMS category with the release of their latest product, Oxite. Using oxite, one can build anything from a blog to a full blown up website.
It’s a feature rich platform which users can make use of to build what they desire. It includes some of the most common and much needed features like comment moderation, anonymous or authenticated commenting, RSS feeds, gravatar support, trackbacks, pingbacks, SEO optimized clean URLs, group blogging, multiple blogs and you can also avail support for custom pages
One of the main reason for WordPress to be a huge success is the fact that it’s built on php, which is readily and freely available on cheap linux servers and the availability of two click installation with the aid of fantastico makes it even more easier for non-tech savvy users to set a wordpress blog and get their site going. Also, the community which supports WordPress is huge and you almost have answer for any problem that you might encounter. This coupled with the never ending – ever growing plugin database provides enough and more features for a regular user to settle with wordpress.
A glance at oxite, you’ll quickly realize that it is no where close to wordpress or even thinking about being a competition with wordpress. WordPress is more user friendly, where as oxite is being built with developers in mind. The package becomes too complex for consumers if they’d want to implement one for their sites. And almost impossible for those with less or no technical knowledge.
One thing common in wordpress and oxite is, both support MetaWebLog API, which makes it easier for end users to publish content via Windows Live Writer and other existing blog clients.
