Set Menu Bar Above The Address Bar In Internet Explorer 8

There is a minor difference in the position of Menu Bar in IE 8 and IE 6. Usually, the menu bar is located below the Address bar in IE 6 whereas in IE 8, it is located above the address bar. If you are familiar with working on IE 6, then you would surely want to change the location of Menu Bar on IE 8. You can easily do it by changing registry files with a trick. Check out the below outlined points in order move Menu Bar above the address in IE 8.

  • Launch notepad.
  • Copy and paste below string into notepad
  • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\]
    "ITBar7Position"=dword:00000001
  • Save the file with name “ie8_menuabove.reg” including Save As type “All Files
  • Now double click ion the registry file and continue by clicking Ok option with UAC prompt to confirm that you want to proceed with the process.

Once you finish the above given steps properly, start the IE 8 and you will observe that Menu Bar is placed above the address bar. If you want to recover your previous settings, then follow the given steps to revert the changes

  • Copy the below given strings and paste into open notepad
  • Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar\WebBrowser\]
    "ITBar7Position"=dword:00000000
  • Save file namely, “ie_belowmenu.reg” and Save As with name “All Files”
  • Now follow the above given step 4 in order to proceed with steps properly.
