Disable Tcp/Ip Routing Automatic Process Of Metric Calculation Feature

How To Disable Tcp/Ip Routing Automatic Process Of Metric Calculation Feature

TCP/IP is a packet which is used in identifying networks, with which we can forward the data and transmit it to destination address. It is used for connecting to the internet. The process is called as a routing which includes selecting ways/paths in network along nodes like routers, firewalls, gateways, hubs, switches which distributes network traffic. Now you must know some technical configuration of routing.

During the routing process, the path selection is based on routing metric. If your computer has multiple network cards, means there is various routes available to destination. Then paths selection chooses the best route metric which computed by routing algorithm.

Routing algorithm takes information such as network delay, bandwidth, path cost, hop count, load, communication cost, and reliability to select optimized route for your network connection.

Metric calculation is an automatic process which runs for each connection available or network interface. If metric calculation is not providing best results, then the user can disable automatic option of metric calculation and set metric value manually.

Uninstall Or Delete Firefox Add-ons Manually When Uninstall Button In Add-ons Window Is Disabled

Uninstall Or Delete Firefox Add-ons Manually When Uninstall Button In Add-ons Window Is Disabled

In Firefox browser, it is not always possible to uninstall or remove the add-ons such as toolbars, extensions, themes etc. through the Add-ons Window. At times, the button “uninstall” in the Add-ons Window corresponding to some add-ons is disabled and appears to be grayed out.

However in such cases, you need to use a separate workaround to manually uninstall such ‘stubborn’ add-ons like toolbars, extensions or themes. Below mentioned are a few techniques that help you in uninstalling, deleting or removing Firefox Add-ons.

Technique 1: Uninstall the Add-ons using the option “Uninstall a Program” or “Add/ Remove Programs”

Some application programs tend to install their respective extensions or add-ons and such add-ons need to be removed or uninstalled using the relevant setup uninstaller. Typically, for uninstalling a program you need to go to the Control Panel and select the option “Uninstall a program” (In Windows Vista) or “Add/ Remove Programs” (In Windows XP).

However, you need to remember to close Mozilla Firefox browser before starting with the un-installation process.

Technique 2: Uninstall the Add-ons in Firefox Safe Mode

Incase an extension, theme or toolbar does not offer an uninstaller or if you find that the button “uninstall” corresponding to a particular add-on is grayed out or disabled, you might try unintalling it in Firefox Safe Mode.

In order to access the Firefox Safe Mode, follow the below mentioned steps:

  • You need to first exit all Firefox Windows.
  • Click on the “Start” button to display the Start Menu. Go to “All Programs” list. Navigate to the folder “Mozilla Firefox” and select Firefox (Safe Mode). As another option to get to Firefox Safe Mode, you may go to the option “Run” (“Start Search” incase of Windows Vista) and type in “firefox -safe-mode” and press “Enter”.

Incase of Mac OS X having Firefox 3, you need to hold down Options key while launching Firefox in order to open Firefox in Safe Mode.

Incase of Mac OS X having Firefox 2, open the folder “Applications”, go to “Utilities” directory and open “Terminal”. Run the command mentioned below:

/path/to/firefox/firefox -safe-mode

For E.g. “/Applications/ -safe-mode

  • Firefox will now start in safe Mode with a dialog “Firefox Safe Mode”. Now that Firefox is operating in Safe Mode, “uninstall” buttons corresponding to some add-ons which were previously grayed out or disabled in the Add-ons window will now be enabled for uninstalling the add-ons properly.

Technique 3: Uninstall User-specific Add-ons (toolbars, extensions, themes etc.) Manually

If you are unable to uninstall add-ons using the above mentioned methods, you can uninstall user-centric add-ons using the below mentioned process:

  • Go to the folder “Profiles” which you can generally find at the location “%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\”. Here, xxxxxx corresponds to a random string. You need to choose active profile folders i.e. the profile folders that contain multiple sub-folders.
  • Open the folder “Extensions” present within the profile folder.
  • Each folder that is present within the folder “Extensions” resembles an extension. A few folders might have readable names which correspond to the plug-in, toolbar or extension and can be identified quite easily. You will find the names of some folders to be obscured. In order to recognize the extension that the folder represents, you need to open each folder and follow the below mentioned steps.
    • Use any text editor (Eg. Notepad) to open the file “install.rdf” present within the folder.
    • Check for the text “em:name” inside the file “install.rdf
    • Find the folder having the file “install.rdf” in which the name following the text “em:name” resembles the extension that you intend to delete or remove.
    • Now delete the entire folder for that particular extension.

Technique 4: Uninstall Globally Installed Extensions Manually

It is not possible for you to delete or remove globally installed extensions using the Add-ons window. You need to use the below mentioned procedure to remove such globally installed extensions.

  • Open Firefox installation folder which is generally located at “C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox”.
  • Within the installation folder, go to the folder “Extensions”.
  • Each folder that is present within the folder “Extensions” resembles an extension. A few folders might have readable names which correspond to the plug-in, toolbar or extension and can be identified quite easily. If the names of some folders are obscured, you need to open each folder and follow the below mentioned steps to recognize the extension that it represents.
    • Open the file “install.rdf” present within the folder in a text editor (E.g. Notepad).
    • Look for the text “em:name” inside the file “install.rdf”.
    • Find the folder that has the file “install.rdf” in which the name following the text “em:name” resembles the extension that you intend to delete or remove.
    • Simply delete the entire folder for that particular extension.

Disabling Skype To Use, Open And Listen On Port 80 As Well As 443 On Local PC

Disabling Skype To Use, Open And Listen On Port 80 As Well As 443 On Local PC

If you really want to install any web server, or maybe an application that requires web pages which is to be served through common HTTP or may be HTTPS ports, i.e. on port 80 as well as on port 443, an error message may appear and suggest that port 80 or port 443 was in use or is being occupied by any other application. It could also happen when there is no web server like Apache or IIS currently installed or running on that system.

While trying to investigate this issue by identifying the application that is being used on port 80, we suspect that the root cause might be due to Skype which allows the users to use the port 80 and the port 443 for alternatives as incoming connections. It uses port 80 as well as 443 for allowing Skype behind firewall in order to connect to the peers or to accept incoming connection with peers though NAT. This wouldn’t be able to connect through the restrictions or firewall that block other ports from opening.

Skype that listens, opens and occupies port 80 as well as port 443 may prevent other applications that require such port for working properly. So, the ability of the Skype for using port 80 as well as port 443 has to be stopped immediately, turned off and it should also remain disabled.

In order to turn off for disabling Skype usage for and listening on the port 80 as well as port 443, we have to open Skype window, after that click on the menu for Tools and then select Options. Then click on the Advanced Tab, after that go to the Connection sub-tab. Here Untick or uncheck that check box for the use port 80 as well as 443 for alternatives of incoming connections option. Lastly, click on the Save button then restart the Skype for making the change effective.
