You could easily share media files with them, but exchanging documents was a problem.

There is a solution for this problem, and it is, a result of joint effort of Microsoft fuse lab and FaceBook. They, together, have been able to provide online document editing suite. In a nutshell, it is an office web application which is customized for Facebook users.

Officially, the was announced by FaceBook founder “Mark Zuckerberg” on the April 21, 2010, which was at the FaceBook f8 conference. By utilizing the strength of “Office web Apps” and inbuilt office 2010, it enables users to create, edit, view and also share the Excel spreadsheets, Word documents, OneNote and PowerPoint presentations. This move brings in convenience for the FaceBook users to start using office documents, and makes it easier form them to share those documents with anyone listed in their contacts.

The application also allows for uploading office documents from the local computers. The saved files and documents will be securely hosted on cloud computing servers, and they can be shared with friends very easily on FaceBook. enables users to mark the files as private documents. Such documents can be managed only by the account holder or by the people who have been assigned with the editing rights. How Can I Add YouTube Videos In PowerPoint

How to Add YouTube videos to your PowerPoint Presentation

This article shows how you can easily add a YouTube video to your presentation – and how you can carry this off without any problems at all. All you have to do is simply follow the steps given below.

Method A

The obvious way is to download the video from the web using any of the online (or on PC) softwares available. Then convert the FLV video into AVI, WMA, or MPEG using a video converter (again, there are loads of them out there), and then embed the object in the presentation. However, in this process you might lose out on the video quality. But this is the safest bet.

Method B

If you are going to present at a place where you have access to an internet connection, you can afford to directly embed the YouTube video in your presentation. For this, you have to do the following:

  1. Click on the Office logo to the top-left and then click on PowerPoint Options.
  2. Go to the Popular tab.
  3. Select the check-box next to Show Developer tab in the Ribbon and click on OK.
  4. Navigate to Developer -> More Controls.
  5. In the list of objects in the new window, select Shockwave Flash Object and click OK.
  6. Create a box in the slide where you will put the video.
  7. Right-click on this box and select Properties.
  8. Select Shockwave Flash Object from the drop-down menu.
  9. Next to the Custom option, click on the small square that has three dots on it.
  10. This will open a Properties dialog for the Shockwave Flash Object. Paste the URL for the YouTube video (you can find it under URL to the right of the video page on YouTube) into the Movie URL section.
  11. Replace the ‘=’ and ‘?’ signs in the URL with ‘/’ sign.

How can I Email A Powerpoint slide ? I got a powerpoint slide through email – how can I view / see it ?

Recently one of my reader had a query. He had a made a PowerPoint and sent it across to few of his friends. While some could successfully download and view the presentation, a few others had problems viewing the downloaded presentation. The reader was curious to know how to make the PowerPoint presentation everyone’s computer friendly 🙂 .

Well the problem was, some of those friends who could successfully open the PowerPoint presentation had some version of Microsoft office installed on their system and quite obvious that they were on Windows operating system.

Those who could not open the presentation were either on some other OS or did not have Microsoft office installed on their system.

The solution for this is quite simple. Microsoft has a free stand alone PowerPoint player. This can be attached in the mail or even better a download link can be added. The link is :

Even better solution is to ask them to download Open Office suite, which is a replacement for most of Microsoft office products and the best part is it comes with GPL license.

Users can play Microsoft PowerPoint with OpenOffice.
