These days Cell phones / mobile phones are used mainly to send Short Messaging Service (SMS). And SMS packages are too costly these days so I was searching for free way to send SMSes.
Using this method, you can send FREE SMS messages to anyone in the world to India, US, Canada, Europe, Australia, UK!
To achieve this, you need a computer and you have to be connected to the Internet
1> Go to Yahoo Widgets, download Yahoo Widget and install it on your system. You can download Yahoo Widget Engine from here.
2> Next you need to download a Yahoo Widget called CallWave, which is the SMS widget.
3> Once you have installed the Yahoo Widget, you’ll notice a new icon in the taskbar. You can open the widget by left clicking on the icon and selecting “Open Widget”
4> Now nagivate to the folder where you have downloaded CallWave Yahoo Widget and click open it.
5> A dialog box will open up, which looks like the image below.
6> Enter the phone number correctly and a valid email address to ensure proper communication. You’ll find a box ‘Mode’, search for your supporting carrier. If you do not find your countries carrier listed in the box, select ‘International’.
7> One major mistake most people do is, they enter the correct phone number but enter wrong country code. You have to ensure you enter the correct country code as well, for ex if you are sending a message to India, lets say to a number 9886409231 then add 91 (country code for India), so the number will be 919886409231.
This service comes free, but make sure you do not abuse it that it becomes worthless for everyone including you ! Else it becomes like this free rapidshare account username and password problem !!
**Update** – This service seems to be obsolete. I have written a new post which gives more information on how you can send free SMS to India, US, Canada and other international countries !

I followed the steps you told us above and installed the yahoo gadgets as well as Callwave but at the time of registration when i entered my E-mail phone no.Etc at the time of submit its saying “Sorry.Our service is not available in your Area”
So does it mean being in india (chandigarh) i can not use this service To send Free SMS.
i wana send sms to australia .so plz tell me some other ideas about it

Hey that’s cool Goutham. I’d love to try this. Any particular system requirements or software that has to be pre-installed? Also where can I get a list of country codes. Does Yahoo provide it? Sorry for asking such a dumb Q i guess i can google for it 😐
